At long last, I have given into the wonderful peer pressure that are my friends, and I have began…Supernatural. I'm six episodes into a twenty-two per season, eight season show that is still running. Season nine has been confirmed.
I am getting in well beyond anything I've done in the past for TV.
It is quite good, though. I'm really enjoying it, and looking forward to watching more. I already know a bit about some of the characters and character arcs, so it's difficult to contain my excitement when I know the general gist of some things.
However, I'm really looking forward to exploring this more. I'll probably use it as my new reward-system for successful studying. (Yay, self bribing!)
Everyone says to follow what speaks to you, but nothing is talking to me. Nothing is jumping up and down, screaming my name.

Catch-Up
No post last night—I went to the school dance. For the first one in over ten years that they've held, it was pretty awesome! A few people showed up drunk, but it didn't get shut down, so all's well that ends well.
Today I went on Roadside Clean-Up, talked with my Mommy (long story short, dear friend I used to work for), and picked about one-and-a-half bags of garbage between the two of us. It was actually a relatively clean stretch that we got! It was all a fundraiser for the library, apparently to put in a new book security system, so I was pleased. We did about 11 kilometres, at $100/km.
I've booked grad photos for tomorrow, 1230h, so I might end up joining the masses and purchasing a corny, formal and staged version of myself. (I secretly love formal photos, though, so yippee!)

Baby, It's Cold Outside!
So, a few new things today. Remember how, a week or so ago, I was boasting of the amazing weather we were having? Yeah, that's come to bite me in the ass. At least -40˚C today (which is the same in Fahrenheit), so school busses were called off, I almost got frostbitten yesterday, and it was miserable. Blech. And in a rural community, no busses pretty much means no school. So there went the Bio practise test…!
On the plus, I got some extra time at work, and got to have lunch with a friend, and talk for ever with her and one of my teachers. Nice.
And, as a result of talking to said women, I have a potential disorder that I will take to my (new?) family doctor, and hopefully get a diagnosis at last about what makes me so freakin' weird. I have abnormal chest pains, and have blackouts, and 'TV static' vision. I get odd tunnel/tube/far away hearing, and sometimes I don't pass out. Ever. Uh-uh.
Okay, maybe once or twice.
Plus that potential great news, I'm going to watch a new favourite movie, 2006's Dreamgirls, again tonight—and because I'm getting to know it so well (not as well as RENT yet, though), I can do some baby-blanket stitching! Score all around!
Today has been, over all, pretty darn good.
What's your best bad-weather-good-day situation like?

Nong Toom, The Beautiful Boxer
So, I spent a lot of time on YouTube this evening, unwinding before an fairly hefty exam tomorrow (not another Diploma until Friday, though!), and I rediscovered my love of Dido. More specifically, I looking into the video for It Comes And It Goes….
The woman who stars in this video, a short film about her life…amazing. First off, she's stunning to look at, and I wish I could kick that high, and powerfully.
Second, the strength it takes to realize your gender is not what it ought to be…and go through with the change—her life is truly an inspiration. Especially seeing as she was supporting her family while kickboxing, and was turned down for a sex exchange a few times…the perseverance and dedication…the self-knowledge!
Nong Toom is definitely one of my ne heros, and I'm slightly in awe.
For her to go on with her life, too…continue boxing post-operation, adopt a daughter (stay in such amazing shape!). Wow. I've definitely been blown away.
I also discovered there is a film, The Beautiful Boxer, that is about her story…I will definitely be looking for it!
So today I want to know…who is the most newfound inspiration to you?

Better Late Than Never!
Today, I found a photo that I'd though was lost for good—and I'm so, so thrilled that I have it back. It turns out it was in a place I swear I've looked before…but lets chalk that up to quantum physics and be done with it. (I saw a few bits of a show, What the Bleep Do We Know? last summer and was fascinated. Which reminds me, I want to see the whole thing….)
Other than that, nothing really happened. I worked on a project, didn't have school, went to bed without blogging, got up, blogged, and then ______.
Hopefully that blank is filled by the word 'slept.'
What was your day like—did you find something you'd 'lost?' Where was it?

It's Only Just!
So almost two years ago, I got to see Carol-Anne Cole speak at a conference—and one thing above all else stuck with me.
Just.
It's only one word, right? Only a little, insignificant, four letter word. Yet something Ms. Cole said made me think. She said to eliminate the 'just,' because almost every time you use it, you're demeaning or minimizing something.
How many times do we call someone, and when they answer, we say "…oh, it's just me?" Or, we tell people we just wanted to say hi? Or "I was just thinking…."
It's belittling. You call someone, it's not just you, it's you! I want to say hi? Then I want to say hi! And "I was just thinking…?" Ugh. Yes, I have a brain—and it even works most of the time. I'm never "just thinking."
So…I don't use the J word anymore. I notice when you do, and I wince a little every time. It kills me a bit inside, and it makes me feel small—even when you're doing it to you.
Just.
